How does Free-daptive Work?

FREE-DAPTIVE DIVERS was organized in 2016 to provide SCUBA (Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus) diving experiences to the adaptive needs community.  We do this by presenting “Try-Scuba” sessions, an introduction to scuba diving, as well as certification level training for interested parties.

We raise funding through donations of both money and equipment. Most of the donated equipment is sold via auction and those sales are placed in our general fund. We then use our funds to help individuals with adaptive needs to complete training, purchase their own gear and to go on dive trips. Our goal is not to provide 100% funding to any one person but to help as many as possible “bridge the gap” that may prevent someone from feeling they can’t afford to enjoy scuba diving.

how can i get involved

There Are a Number of Ways to Get Involved With FREE-DAPTIVE Divers:
You don’t necessarily have to be a diver (but we’ll certainly try to talk you into becoming one!) to be involved in the highly rewarding efforts of FREE-DAPTIVE Divers. You can:

  • VOLUNTEER at our social and annual fundraising events as well as help with our adaptive “fun dives”.
  • SPONSOR one of our events or provide financial support of our equipment, training and dive initiatives.
  • JOING AN EVEN COMMITTEE.  We’re always looking for new people with new ideas and different talents to help us plan our social, pool, fundraising and adaptive travel offerings.
  • BECOME A CERTIFIED DIVE BUDDY.  Dive Buddies actively assist our dive team and adaptive divers in our scuba events.  It’s fun and rewarding! We are certified by the Handicapped Scuba Association and follow their protocols.  To find out more about HSA, go to their website for more information.  https://www.hsascuba.com
  • DONATE!  We are a Non-Profit and can’t provide these services without your financial help. Click on the DONATE TODAY button at the bottom to learn more about giving to FREE-DAPTIVE.
